For those who didn't meet me at the fair, I worked for PIKOM, as part of the organizing crew.
So the 1 million dollar question is : How did I apply to work for PIKOM?
My 1 million dollar answer would be : Itch your hands and send them a daring e-mail!
I was surprised that we were not called up for any interview. Maybe I sounded convincing enough over the phone? Or maybe, they were in desperate need of workers?
So anyway, upon several calls here and there, I managed to get Yi Phing and Su Lin to work along with me. It will be perfect bonding time for us 3 before Su Lin leaves for US and Yi Phing for AIMST.
I'll still be in Taiping for the next 2 months. Anyone wants to yum cha? Anytime!
And then you know, PC Fair, the best place to meet people and I was in dire need of my ecstasy!
Perfect Plan, Perfect Job and Perfect Timing! Perfect Pay too :)
Our work started off on the eve. Introduced to our "young" supervisor who drove all the way from KL : James Lim.
Notice how I highlighted the word young? From our conversation over phone, I actually gathered that James must be a 40 something man with a slight paunch. Maybe it is due to his relatively lower voice.
We were shocked to the core when this young man turned up instead!
James then briefed us on what we are supposed to do for the next 3 fair days and distributed our vests&tags.
On the eve, we were supposed to supervise the decoration and setting up of booths by both the exhibitors and contractors.
Another exhibitor organising the booth.
We also distributed entrance tags and boxes of water to the exhibitors. Despite the fact that not much was done on the eve, 3 of us were terribly dehydrated. The MPT officials refused to turn on the air-conditioning as the hall rental was only paid for the 3 fair days.Restlessness and exhaustion got the better of us that we decided to play with the walkie talkies.
Mou Liu activites include speaking to each other on the talkie although sitting right in front of each other.
I remember having crazy conversations with the contractors in Tamil. My vocabulary of Tamil is of only foul words and that sent the 6 contractors in fits of laughter. Worst was when I "kuchi kuchi hota hei" over the talkie! The whole hall could hear us roaring in laughter!
For lunch, we brought our packed fried rice to Kok Beng and ordered a plate of just chicken. We then packed a big pack of chicken rice for James. Kok Beng's chicken rice is one of the top 10 best in Malaysia. We thought that food would be the best Taiping town introduction for James.
As the day neared a 7pm, we decided to give the still absent exhibitors a call. Me and Phing had Little Nyonya to catch!
Most of the time was filled with fun mindless chatterings. James, 'Manis', Richard and Ah Leong. At least we got to know each other better.
In the end, we left after 9pm. As workers, we had to honour our work :)
The 4 of us then went to Tai-O for dinner@supper. Working in such an industry, meals time are really irregular.
I reached home at 11pm, just in time to shower and rest before the repeat of Little Nyonya at 12am. I slept at 1am, praying hard that I can wake up in time for work the very next morning.
